In May 2020 my sister Raina and I collaborated on a live theatre show combining Raina's solo performance with my visual art. The art was chosen from a vast collection of work done over the last 30 years. My art was not used as illustrations but rather a parallel universe, a world of dreams, a sister to the story. Projected images moved through the space, some included text and all had a personal style and purpose. The paintings danced along side my sister on stage who portrayed an old man dying.
Due to Covid 19 our work was halted. We aimed to turn this into a short film and wrote the screenplay during the pandemic. Our current goal is to re-work, expand and re-open this show to a live audience now that we are able to. We aim for 2023/24
Writers Notes:
Handel with Care - a piece about birth, death, same window
A flicker
So quick, this little visit on our planet. Something about kindness and respect. Jane Goodall, Greta Thunberg. Both women, at a young age, speak to the world. Defending the delicate balance of life - and the well being of all monkeys - on this planet.
Something about attachment. A basic need in primates. Stronger than food.
Harry Harlow, Covid 19. Preventing our need to socialize, hug and touch.
And then, something about dying.
What is our relationship to death? Isn't dying a part of life? What is the space between the two? And memory. What is real and what is not? And what does it matter?
Something about kindness and respect.
